Which One Do You Need?

Private Acupuncture vs. Comprehensive Acupuncture & Traditional Chinese Medicine

Private Acupuncture is focused, one-on-one treatment for a single primary concern — more time and privacy than Community Care, without a full whole-person evaluation. Comprehensive Acupuncture & Traditional Chinese Medicine goes further: a complete evaluation designed for multiple, chronic, or interconnected health concerns.

If you have one clear concern, Private Acupuncture is likely the right fit. If your health picture is more complex or you’re not sure, Comprehensive Care may be the better starting point. Explore Comprehensive Acupuncture & TCM →

Focused Care With Greater Capacity

When Community Care Is Not Quite Enough

Community Acupuncture provides complete, individualized Traditional Chinese Medicine and meets the needs of many patients. Sometimes, however, a patient needs greater privacy, more treatment time, additional positioning support, or a focused adjunctive therapy.

Private Acupuncture creates that additional clinical space while remaining focused on one primary concern. It is not simply Community Acupuncture moved into a private room. It offers a different treatment environment and greater capacity to work directly with the condition bringing you in.

Many patients use Private Acupuncture temporarily, then return to Community Care for affordable ongoing treatment, maintenance, and prevention.

Private Acupuncture May Be Right for You When:

You Need Privacy

You are uncomfortable receiving treatment in a shared room, need to discuss something privately, or require access to an area of the body that cannot be treated comfortably while fully clothed.

You Need More Treatment Capacity

Community Care is helping, but additional treatment time or a more focused approach may help you progress more effectively.

You Need Positioning Support

You need help getting onto or positioning comfortably on a treatment table because of pain, pregnancy, mobility limitations, or another physical concern.

One Adjunctive Therapy Could Help

Your practitioner believes electroacupuncture, gua sha, moxibustion, or another focused treatment approach may improve your outcome.

Your Appointment

What Private Acupuncture Offers

Your session remains focused on the primary concern bringing you in. Treatment is individualized according to your symptoms, Traditional Chinese Medicine diagnosis, goals, and response to previous care.

  • A private treatment room.
  • A focused consultation and reassessment.
  • Individualized acupuncture.
  • Additional time for positioning and direct treatment.
  • One selected adjunctive therapy when clinically appropriate, such as electroacupuncture, gua sha, or moxibustion.
  • Brief manual therapy when appropriate.
  • Herbal and lifestyle recommendations when appropriate.
  • A clear treatment plan and recommended next step.

Thoughtful Use of Adjunctive Therapies

Private Acupuncture may include one adjunctive therapy selected according to your presentation and the practitioner’s clinical judgment. More techniques do not automatically create a better treatment. The goal is to use the approach most likely to help you.

Not every practitioner offers every technique. The available treatment approach may depend on the practitioner you see and the needs identified during your visit.

Therapeutic Cupping

Therapeutic cupping requires additional appointment time for application, retention, removal, cleaning, and room turnover. For that reason, cupping is offered through a dedicated add-on option and in our Comprehensive Acupuncture & Traditional Chinese Medicine services rather than being added unexpectedly during a standard visit.

Please select the “add-on” cupping option when booking or consider booking the Comprehensive Acupuncture & Traditional Chinese Medicine for cupping to be offered as part of your treatment.

Choosing the Appropriate Care

How Private Acupuncture Is Different

Care Option Best Suited For Clinical Format
Community Care Accessible, consistent acupuncture for relief, recovery, maintenance, and prevention. Individualized treatment in a quiet shared room using a recliner or orthopedic table.
Private Acupuncture One primary concern requiring privacy, more treatment capacity, positioning support, or one focused adjunctive therapy. Focused one-on-one treatment in a private room.
Comprehensive Acupuncture & Traditional Chinese Medicine Multiple, chronic, or interconnected health concerns that benefit from a broader whole-person evaluation. Comprehensive evaluation, review of systems, Traditional Chinese Medicine diagnosis, treatment planning, acupuncture, formulated herbal recommendations when appropriate, education, and lifestyle guidance.

No option is better than another. The goal is to choose the level of care that best meets your needs today.

You Do Not Need to Stay in Private Acupuncture Indefinitely

Many patients use Private Acupuncture during an active phase of care, then return to Community Acupuncture for ongoing treatment at a more accessible cost. If your health picture is more complex or interconnected, your practitioner may recommend Comprehensive Acupuncture & Traditional Chinese Medicine. If your needs would benefit from focused specialty expertise, they may recommend Neuromuscular Acupuncture or a Comprehensive Herbal Medicine Consultation.

Common Questions

Is Private Acupuncture better than Community Acupuncture?
No. Both provide individualized Traditional Chinese Medicine. Private Acupuncture simply offers greater privacy, treatment capacity, and time for focused care when those are clinically useful.

Can I start with Private Acupuncture?
Yes. You may begin with the pathway that most closely matches your needs. You do not need to receive Community Care first.

Does every visit include an adjunctive therapy?
No. Adjunctive therapies are used only when clinically appropriate. Your practitioner will select the treatment most likely to help you rather than adding techniques unnecessarily.

Can Private Acupuncture address several unrelated concerns?
The appointment is designed around one primary concern. If you need a broader assessment of multiple, chronic, or interconnected concerns, Comprehensive Acupuncture & Traditional Chinese Medicine will usually be more appropriate.

Can I return to Community Acupuncture afterward?
Absolutely. Patients may move between Community Care, One-on-One Care, Specialty Care, and Accompaniment as their health and circumstances change.
